House of Lords opens the door to allow claims relating to long-ago incidents of child sexual abuse.
A landmark judgment in the law relating to limitation of actions in the civil courts was made on 30th January 2008 by the House of Lords in the case of A –v- Hoare [2008] UKHL 6 and four other cases. As a result of that ruling, it is now possible for old claims relating to child sexual abuse to be brought by the victim many years after becoming an adult.... read more >>

Claims against the Police more likely after Court of Appeal ruling
The judgment by the House of Lords in Hill -v- Chief Constable of West Yorkshire Police [1989] AC 53 has ring-fenced the Police from many potential claims against them for negligence. Since then, the Human Rights Act has empowered the British and Northern Ireland courts to apply the European Convention on Human rights to the general law. On February 5th 2008, the Court of Appeal ruled that Article 2 of the convention could be incorporated into the tort of negligence, thus opening the door for more claims against the police in the future.... read more >>
